The company has its own food products, as well as does contract manufacturing. Its key own product is milk. Set up as India's first joint sector dairy project with the Government of West Bengal and NDBB under the aegis of the World Bank's Operation Flood III, Metro Dairy Ltd is now a 100% owned subsidiary of Keventer Agro Ltd. The Company owns a fully automated factory at Barasat with capacity of 400,000 LPD of liquid milk

Operates under the brand name 'Metro', and is the 2nd largest dairy player in West Bengal. It also sells ice creams in this brand, and claims a 45% market share in West Bengal in ice cream. The company has its own distribution network in Eastern India as well - with a reach of over 100,000 outlets spanning General Trade, Modern Retail and Online

 

Another own business is frozen foods. It has a portfolio of 30 products spanning veggies, snacks, breads & meats. It is also into Bananas, it uses ethylene ripening technology which is the only method approved by FSSAI, and is a pioneer in terms of branding bananas through stickering.

 

The company is a contract manufacturer for leading brands like Parle Agro (Frooti, Appy and Bailley), ITC (noodle manufacturing), and GFA (Coffee World and Cream & Fudge). For Parle, it has franchise for Eastern India, involving manufacturing, sales and distribution as well.

 

Keventer as a business traces its history to more than 100 years, it was started by an Englishman names Edward Keventer.  It was acquired by Mahendra Jalan in 1984. The private limited company was incorporated in 1986. It has 7 directors – Mayank Jalan (managing director), Parvana Jalan, Rajeev Varma, Mahendra Jalan, Probir Roy, Suresh Sureka and Sumit Krishna Deb. In Sep’17, private equity fund Mandala Capital picked up 15% stake in Keventar of Rs 1.7B.

 

For the year ended Mar’16, the company reported revenue of INR 4.45B (~USD 69m), EBITDA of Rs 500m (USD8m) and net profit of Rs 43m (USD 0.7).
