Ratnagiri, Maharashtra based Gadre Marine Export Pvt Ltd (GMEPL) is one of India’s largest exporters of sea food. The company focusses on value added products, including marinated and reado to eat products, which reflects in its superior profit margins. It claims to be India’s only manufacturer of Surimi crab sticks.

 

After focusing purely on exports, Gadre has decided to focus on the Indian market in recent years. It has started supplying to domestic hotels, restaurants and caterers (HORECA) segment. It is also beginning to retail directly to consumers. It appointed brand ambassadors like chef Raveer Brar and Vikas Khanna.

 

Gadre Marine is the 3rd largest Surimi manufacturer in the world. GMEPL has three plants, one in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, and one each in Chorwad, Gujarat, and Brahmavar, Karnataka

 

The company was incorporated as a private limited company in 1994, though it traces its history to 1970s. The company is family owned, with 3 directors – Arjun D Gadre (MD), Meena D Gadre and Deepak P Gadre. Arjun Gadre is the second generation of the family, the business was set up Deepak Gadre.

 

For the year ended Mar’16, the company reported standalone revenue of INR 7.14B (~USD 110m). The company reported net profit of Rs 570m (USD 9m). In FY16, it exported 34,000 tonnes of fish and produced about 14,000 tonnes of value added products
