Cochin, Kerala based Accelerated Freeze Drying Company (AFDC) is an exporter of freeze dried food items. It claims to be the first and the largest freeze drying company in India.

 

AFDC (https://www.acceleratedfreezedryingcompany.com/)  is a joint venture company between Indian promoters and Japanese food company Nissin Foods. The company was incorporated on 17 March 1986.

 

AFDC lays claim to be the only food company in India where all facilities are green ticketed for export into the USA. It also claims to be the only food factory in India approved to export to Japan, without inspection, under their pre-certification scheme.

 

AFDC has two facilities, located in Cochin & Bangalore. Cochin is the bigger facility, with a capacity of 660 tpa; Bangalore is 160 tpa. The Cochin facility processes both sea food and herbs, while the Bangalore facility processes herbs and spices.  

 

The company has 6 directors –Abraham John Tharakan (MD), Jani Uthup Chacko, Keya Tharakan, Mathew Jose,  Shugo Ueda and Toshio Nakai. The latter 2 are nominees of the Japanese partner Nissin.

It is part of the Amalgam Group, which has other companies like Amalgam Frozen Foods Pvt. Ltd and Amalgam Nutrients & Feeds Ltd.

 

For the year ended Mar’16, the company reported standalone revenue of INR 1.6B (~USD 25m) and net profit of INR 20m (USD 0.4m).  EBITDA margin was 6%.
