Bangalore based Alpha Design Technologies (ADT) (http://adtl.co.in) is a supplier to India’s defence sector. Alpha was founded by Col H S Shankar, a retired R&D head of Bharat Electronics. In 2004, Alpha began taking up projects for the Indian Army, helping it retrofit imagers for its Russian tanks.

 

Over the years, it has taken up projects in opto-electronics (combines electronics and light), electronic warfare equipment, missile launch detection systems and missile seekers for the armed forces. It acquired firms with capabilities in developing software and has partnered with Airbus and Israel’s Elbit Systems and Elta for making equipment for the armed forces.

 

ADT was incorporated on 02 July 2003, though it has been in the business since 1985. The company has 3 directors – Holenarasipura Srikantaiah Shankar (managing director), Akunuri Mohana Rao, Rakesh Dhar Jayal.

 

For the year ended Mar’16, the company reported standalone revenue of INR 1.4B (~USD 22m) and net profit of INR 80m (USD 1.2m). Consolidated turnover is much higher at Rs 4B for FY16 (USD 64m). In 2016, ADT employed 845 people, 570 of them engineers who have been hired from colleges in Tier II and Tier III cities.
