Global Green Company Limited (http://globalgreengroup.com) was incorporated on 18 February 1992. It is part of the Avantha group run by Gautam Thapar. The company has 8 directors: Sharad Sanjay Sen, Rajesh Kumar Srivastava, Gautam Thapar, Bhuthalingam Hariharan, Wilton Henriques, Shalini M Gupta, Davinder Kumar Narang, Sanjeev Chadha.

Global Green is a leading diversified producer and exporter of processed vegetables & fruits. It is engaged in growing, manufacturing, distributing and selling pickled cucumbers (gherkins, cornichons, pickles and relish), sweet-corn, silver skin onions, peppers (jalapeño and paprika), cherries, capers and mixed vegetables. it has processing facilities in India (at Hoskote, Karnataka and Medak, Andhra Pradesh), Hungary and Belgium as well as an associated facility in Turkey.

Global Green Company was originally set up in 1992 as a joint venture between India’s Thapar group and a European partner. In 1996, the Thapar Group acquired 100% stake in the entity.

Over the years, Global Green has done 3 acquisitions, one in India, then 2 in Europe. In 1999, it acquired VST Natural Products Ltd – the foods division of Hyderabad based British American Tobacco associate – VST Industries. In 2006, it acquired Belgium based Intergarden N.V. and the complete Intergarden Group of Companies – including operations in Hungary, India and Intergarden’s stake in Floragarden, a Turkish based joint venture for caper production. In 2008, it acquired Puszta Konzerv Kft, based in Balmazujvaros, near Debrecen in Eastern Hungary.

The company has raised external funding. In 2010, it raised USD10m from Rabo Equity Advisors. In 2013, Global Green bought back part of the Rabo stake. The company raised further funding in FY16: Rs 2.08B in the form of preference shares and Rs 750m in the form of equity.

Global Green turned profitable in FY16 both at the operating EBITDA and net profit levels after being loss-making for the past five years. For the year ended Mar’16, the company reported revenue of Rs 2.5B, and net profit of Rs 17m, which could also be a result of 5 years of losses, right from EBITDA level. It appears some of the acquisitions have not worked out well.
