Innovative Foods Limited (IFL) is a processed foods company owned by a private equity fund Peepul Capital, which acquired it in March 2016. IFL makes ready to eat vegetarian, non-vegetarian food which includes sea food.  It sells to major modern trade counters in India under the brand Sumeru.

 

IFL was carved out of Amalgam Foods of Kochi. The Tata Group bought into the company in 2007 via Indian Hotels, and then sold the same to India Equity Partners in 2011. IFL has operations in four locations in Cochin, Kerala, and a consolidated installed capacity of 10,000 tonnes a year.

 

IFL seems to be struggling for growth. For the year ended Mar’16, the company reported revenue of INR 492m, down from Rs 627m reported in FY15. The company reported a loss of Rs 97m as against a loss of Rs 47m in FY15.
